About the Artist
Sindy Butz is a German-born interdisciplinary visual artist, Butoh practitioner, and educator in somatics and dance. Butz's art practice spans the disciplines of conceptual endurance performances, performance-based video art, and photography, multisensory installation, olfactory art, and ceramics. She executes her work with a passion for the research on the human body, the body-mind connection, altered states of consciousness, slow-time perception, interoception, and introspection.
In her project-based works, she explores belief systems and ideologies throughout history,
socio-political transformation processes, the fragility and vulnerability of the human condition, behavior, the human unconscious, and collective memory and healing.
Butz was born in the German Democratic Republic and raised in the suburbs of East Berlin. She earned a B.F.A. in sculpture from AKI- ARTez Netherland, an M.F.A. in Art in Context from the Institute of Art in Context, University of the Arts (UdK), Berlin Germany, and was a DAAD research scholar at the ITP-Tisch, Interactive Telecommunication Program at New York University, USA, with a grant that allowed her to continue her body-based research and study new technologies in wearable art and assistive technology.
Butz has exhibited nationally and internationally. She recently concluded the Glasshouse Artist in Residency 2021 as the very first resident in New Paltz, New York curated by Lital Dotan and Eyal Perry.

We offer an opportunity to experience visceral and challenging works by the current generation of international performance artists whether emerging, mid-career or established. Our events are presented on the floor, not on a stage, dissolving the boundary between artist and viewer. This is how performance art is meant to be experienced and our mission is the glorification of performance art.
