OMNI (Collective)
his installation is, at it's simplest form, an experimentation with the physical, spiritual, and intellectual properties of water and it's relation to our daily life as human beings living on this Earth, and even more specifically, young theatre/music/dance/performance/visual artists randomly brought together from around the world to study art in a vast city that is completely, utterly, scarily, beautifully surrounded and entrapped by water. In an age of general social ennui that is most deeply felt among people of our demographic, many of whom feel completely hopeless when it comes to the environmental/social/political/economic stability of our world, water seems to be the one thing that remains constant to some extent. Water is the only thing, it seems, that is no stranger to any of us, a single universal form of matter that carries with it an infinity of experiences, none of which are unknown to us. And yet, with all this universality, there is the individual experience of body and water, of self and water, of culture and water, of people water that creates a vast multitude of personal/religious/symbolic/cultist/spiritual associations with water, all of which are meant to be explored in this installation through the lenses of gender, race, sex, sexuality, age, profession, educational background, ethnicity, nationality, state of mind, taste in music, taste in art in general, family history, friend history, history and experience with love, and just about every other form of identification that can possibly fit into a reasonable performance art timeslot. To put all of these into conversation with water, with the state of our Earth, with the state of New York, with the state of art, and with plastic and projection and music: this is our challenge. The result is a performance that is thrillingly meta and uncomfortably truthful and beautiful.

Opened in 2006, Grace Exhibition Space is devoted exclusively to Performance Art. We offer an opportunity to experience visceral and challenging works by the current generation of international performance artists whether emerging, mid-career or established. Our events are presented on the floor, not on a stage, dissolving the boundary between artist and viewer. This is how performance art is meant to be experienced and our mission is the glorification of performance art.
Grace Exhibition Space presents over 30 curated live performance art exhibitions each year, showcasing new work by more than 400 performance artists from across the United States and the world since 2006.
