Shuntaro Yoshida (Japan) is a dancer, choreographer, and researcher of contemporary dance and performance. He was part of the contemporary dance company “Noism 2” in Niigata in 2009 and took part in several choreographic and performance projects in Japan. From 2013-2015, he earned a Master’s Degree in the Department of Dance at University Paris 8, Paris and attended French choreographer Jerome Bel’s research workshops in several cities across the world (Bruxelles, Munich, Paris, Seine-Saint Denis and Venice). Yoshida is currently a Visiting Scholar in the Department of East Asian Studies at NYU. His research examines the practices and theories of “post-choreography” as they relate to the notion of the spectator’s participation in the social context. He is currently a Ph.D. student in the Department of Music at the Tokyo University of the Arts and was the recipient of a JSPS Research Fellowship for Young Scientists.

Valerie Green (United States) has been an active dancer, choreographer, and teacher in the New York City dance community since 1995. After graduating from University of Wisconsin-Madison and studying as one of the Erick Hawkins school’s last pupils, Green sought a platform for her own innovative movement style and artistic vision. She founded Valerie Green/Dance Entropy in 1998. To date, Green has created 38 dances including 9 evening-length works, all of which incorporate forms of original production, musical composition, innovative set design or new media. Her choreography has been presented extensively throughout New York City, Nationally & Internationally. As a teacher, Green has integrated classical modern technique with her own somatic based movement practice to develop an individualized style called Dance Your Frame. She also leads series of movement workshops for non-dance populations rooted in the philosophy that all bodies can benefit from dance. Whether it’s working with the professional or aspiring dancer or leading workshop and performance residencies for trauma survivors, senior citizens, persons with disabilities or at-risk youth, Green fosters creativity and physicality beyond the stage. In order to provide VG/DE a permanent company home and root her outreach programs in the community, Green founded a studio in Long Island City in 2005.

Carlos Lolito Vargas (Ecuador) graduated as a Visual Artist from Ecuador Arts Institute ITAE in 2014. His experience includes a couple of solo exhibitions in his country and some other participations in national and international festivals and contests, with video/photo performance and installation artworks. Winner of the VI Non-Visual Arts Biennale of Guayaquil (2014), second place at Premio Brasil Arte Emergente in Quito (2013). After moving to USA (2016), he had the chance to participate in live action art exhibitions at Queens Museum (Liveart.us, curated by Hector Canonge), Alexander Gertsman Contemporary Art Gallery, and being part of an experimental dance project for Prismatic Productions (Composition No. 1, directed by John Ollom).

Irene Chan (United States) is a multidisciplinary artist who works conceptually in print media, papermaking, installation, performance, and book arts. Her books and works on paper have been exhibited internationally and held in 70 public collections including the Walker Art Center, The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, Tate Modern, Victoria & Albert Museum, and British Library in London. Chan established Ch’An (ch’ ahn) Press through which she has self-published prints and 34 limited-edition artist books to date. She is the recipient of grants and awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, New York Arts Council, Maryland State Arts Council, Washington D.C. Commission of the Arts and Humanities, fellowships to 14 artist residencies, and has exhibited and performed in 63 venues in the last ten years. Irene Chan holds an M.F.A. with honors from the San Francisco Art Institute and a degree in architecture (BArch) with a Minor in English from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Besides running her own press and studio, she is also an Associate Professor in the department of Visual Arts (Head of Print Media) and Affiliate Faculty in Asian Studies at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, U.S.A. Alison Crocetta (United States) maintains a hybrid art practice that draws on her experience working within the realms of sculpture, performance art and the moving image. Crocetta’s work has been performed, exhibited and screened internationally in Brazil, Norway, Germany and the United Kingdom and in a range of US venues such as the Queens Museum and the Socrates Sculpture Park in Queens, NY; The Bronx Museum of the Arts in Bronx, NY; The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, CT; Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) in Troy, NY; MIT List Visual Arts Center and Harvard University in Cambridge, MA; the Contemporary Arts Center and Weston Art Gallery in Cincinnati, OH; Defibrillator Performance Art Gallery in Chicago, IL. Her honors and awards include an Individual Excellence Award in the category of Interdisciplinary / Performance Art from the Ohio Arts Council, the Franklin Furnace Fund for performance art, and an EMPAC DanceMovies film commission. She was an artist-in-residence at the Nordic Artists' Center in Dale, Norway; the Agora Collective in Berlin, Germany; the Film/Video studio program at the Wexner Center for the Arts; and Harvestworks Digital Media Arts Center in New York City. Crocetta was a fellow at The Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University and the recipient of a NEA grant in sculpture. Crocetta received an MFA from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture. Crocetta is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Art at The Ohio State University.

COURTNEY FRANCES FALLON [USA]

Courtney Frances Fallon (United States) earned a B.A. in English Literature with a Concentration in Global Cultures from Binghamton University. Rather than taking an academic position, she focused on how cultural theory fuels and informs her work to this day. Following attempts to write a novel, a series of personal essays, and collaborate on a play – CFF completed her first major work “You Know This Girl” in 2009. It is a one woman play which combines performance and video to examine gender, contemporary sexual mores, and consumerism. Research for the play inspired a tangential conceptual photo series, her “Vagina Postcards” (2009) with Katharine T. Jacobs. Although one begat the other, the photos are not complimentary of “You Know This Girl”. Her full-length play, “Bitter Muse” however, spawned plans for visual projects that were text-related. Following Trump’s withdrawal from the Paris Agreement, Fallon launched the political art protest “Draw the Blue Line” during the 2017 UN General Assembly. The project included guerilla installations and performance vandalism – it was Fallon’s first visual art project independent from writing and her first serious foray into fabrication. Writing is deeply intertwined in her visual art practice - from development to documentation – but the drive to create visual work is in tandem or in conspiracy with the same force calling her to write.

ITINERANT was created in 2010 by interdisciplinary artist Hector Canonge. The initiative was a small platform for Contemporary Performance Art, and had its origins in the monthly series A-Lab Forum that Canonge organized at Crossing Art Gallery in Flushing, Queens. Following the growing interest in Live Art, and the need to present performance programs in the borough, ITINERANT was launched in 2011 under the auspices of QMAD, Queens Media Arts Development. In 2012, ITINERANT was recognized by the City of New York as the first Performance Art festival taking place throughout the five boroughs that make the metropolitan area: Queens, Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn and Staten Island. In 2013, following the large scale venture in NYC, Canonge journeyed through Latin America creating the Spanish edition of the festival, Encuentro ITINERANTe which was presented in various cities in the Southern Hemisphere. In 2015, Canonge brought back ITINERANT to New York City. Since then the festival has introduced, and featured the work of local, national and international emerging and established artists introducing and featuring their work at local museums, art galleries, performance art spaces, and public parks.
