An American Red Cedar Tree

Process：Planting an American Red Cedar Tree in the middle of the lake in Rosekill
Concept：A wish that the friendship between America and China will last forever
Description：Vigi started a project “Plant Partnership Plan” in 2016, in which she planted a tea tree beside the lake at Songzhuang Art Museum. The president Nixon established diplomatic relations with China in 1972, and during that time he presented a few red cedar tree as a gift to China. After 45 years, this knit a positive future in between America and China. The red cedar has a super vitality. It is the one of the tallest trees in the world and can survive for 2500 years.

陈述：艺术家于2016年发起长期“植物合作计划”的社会实践项目，探讨人类应当如何尊重大自然的共生计划，曾在宋庄美术馆的湖边上种植一颗茶树。1972年，中美关系建交时，美国总统尼克松访华时，将几株加州红杉树苗作为礼物送给中国，时过45年，中美关系在大家共同努力下编织美好的前景。美国红杉天生更新能力极强，是世界最高的树种之一，也是地球上最庞大的植物之一，寿命长达2500年。

Concept：To discuss humanity, self-growth, and complexity
Description：Arthur Schopenhauer once said “A man can be himself only so long as he is alone; and if he does not love solitude, he will not love freedom; for it is only when he is alone that he is really free. ... Solitude will be welcomed or endured or avoided, according as a man’s personal value is large or small, -- the wretch feeling, when he is alone, the whole burden of his misery; the great intellect delighting in its greatness.” This is a way to return and discover，especially while our physical and material culture changes so quickly, creating a big problem. The complexity of humanity needs to find a way back. It is highly significant to balance this sentiment and elevate this acknowledgement.

We offer an opportunity to experience visceral and challenging works by the current generation of international performance artists whether emerging, mid-career or established. Our events are presented on the floor, not on a stage, dissolving the boundary between artist and viewer. This is how performance art is meant to be experienced and our mission is the glorification of performance art. 

Grace Exhibition Space presents over 30 curated live performance art exhibitions each year, showcasing new work by more than 400 performance artists from across the United States and the world since 2006.
