ABOUT ANNABEL GUÉRÉDRAT
In 2012, Annabel opened a new cycle of performances around black feminism, concerning the social and politic body of black and mixed colored women in the Caribbean area.
In 2003 Annabel Guérédrat founded her own dance company, Artincidence. From 2006, she led, alongside her creations, danced actions and workshops for prostitution, prisons, education, medical, social and humanitarian environments. Then she opened herself up to new exchanges and created new artistic collaborations with Caribbean, South Americans and Africans choreographers. In 2008, Annabel was recognized for her very authentic solo named "Resilience" at the first Caribbean Biennale of Dance in Havana, Cuba.
Between June & September 2010, she made three decisive encounters. She met with Meredith Monk, Keith Hennessy & Anna Halprin. Hence followed her performance A freak show for S. presenting "her whole body as an opened entity" and paying a tribute to the Black Venus, Sarah Baartman.
Annabel Guérédrat is a choreographer, dancer and performer from Martinique. She is certified in Literature and history at the renowned University of Sorbonne, Paris, and is an educator in the art of Somatic movement through the Body Mind Centering® method. Also certified in contemporary dance, she was trained in afro-bresilian dance, Butoh dance, Yoga and Pilates. The somatic techniques she acquired through all this training allowed Annabel to include in her performances very personal and sensitive gestures.

ABOUT 21ST SUFFRAGETTES: International Performance Art by Women
Grace Exhibition Space celebrates the 15th anniversary of 21st Suffragettes, a seminal Brooklyn-based performance art event originally held in 2001. Jill McDermid (Director and Co-Founder of GES) curated and directed 21st Suffragettes, a 72-hour event of works made only by women in the galleries and bars of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, featuring performances at Galapagos Art Space, exhibitions at numerous galleries, DJ’s at a Williamsburg bar and DJ’s and bands at all-nite Rubulad. Participating galleries included: Sideshow, Front Room Gallery, Figureworks, Fish Tank, Roebling Hall, South First, The Williamsburg Art & Historical Center and more.
This Spring, Grace Exhibition Space will once again put a spotlight on works made by women for 21st Suffragettes: Performance Art by Women. Our Spring 2016 programming hosts women from around the globe, starting with the radical work of Rocio Boliver (aka La Congelada de Uva) [Mexico], feminist porn artist Madison Young [USA], street & gallery artist Annabelle Guérédrat [Martinique], Brooklyn Museum's Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art participant, Arahmaiani [Indonesia] internationally renowned Performance Art duo, VestAndPage [Germany/Italy]
and ending at Rosekill, Rosendale NY Memorial Day weekend May 27-30, 2016

Opened in 2006, Grace Exhibition Space is devoted exclusively to Performance Art. We offer an opportunity to experience visceral and challenging works by the current generation of international performance artists whether emerging, mid-career or established. Our events are presented on the floor, not on a stage, dissolving the boundary between artist and viewer. This is how performance art is meant to be experienced and our mission is the glorification of performance art.
Grace Exhibition Space presents over 30 curated live performance art exhibitions each year, showcasing new work by more than 400 performance artists from across the United States and the world since 2006.
