ALEJANDRO CHELLET [Mexico]
Alejandro Chellet (1990) is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Mexico City. Chellet has a diploma in both Bio Architecture and Permaculture. He is the co-founder of Cualti Mexico, an urban agriculture and social change project and the coordinator at the Permaculture Centre of Education of Palenque. Chellet is also the manager of an organic cattle ranch in Chiapas.
ALEJANDRO CHELLET: I am interested in social and environmental problematics. I have funded and work in an urban agriculture project in Mexico City for five years now. Recently I have been travelling and hanging out with punks, squatters, ecologists, political activists, organic farmers, permaculturalists, and artists. I believe that today’s youth should act in the same way people have done before and raise their voice to say what we really want and seek for our future. I see a world of fast changes and big uncertainty, where art and all the paraphernalia of which it consists does nothing to point out our daily important troubles. I dare to say that we need a new beginning. If art is there to help the people and to make them feel and understand this world, then we need to start right now. Performance art (activism, all kinds of street interventions, occupying, live art) is the newest way of expression and the closest to the audience. Because of this I always look forward to the opportunity to participate, stay informed and collaborate with different people on projects and express myself in anyway possible, learn, teach, dig, sow, build compost toilets, move, plant trees, talk, jump and fly.

GRAY ZONE, KINGSTON continues the founding mission of the Grace Exhibition Space in Brooklyn: the Glorification of Performance Art, yet in a location more loudly resonant in Nature. Gray Zone on the Rondout is only yards away from the Hudson River estuary that provides life-sustaining water for agriculture and wildlife. Gray Zone is on Broadway, a life-sustaining thoroughfare through all of the variances of the City of Kingston, itself in a gray area surrounded by river, mountains, farms and towns.
