The Flag, Sugar Mosaic, Visual Performental Art is a new art form, a combination of performance art and environmental art. The durational work is designed specially for a Grace Exhibition Gallery context. The work is is an exploration of both physical and social endurance. Working outdoors will show there is no eternal. All materials in The Flag, Sugar Mosaic Project are natural, sugar. The color is from ink, plants and berries. Natural elements such as rain, wind and sunshine are constantly changing the work. Animals and insects are eating the material of the artwork until it has completely recovered back to the place of its origins.
NAPS, Nature&Art Post Scriptum is a team of Paivi Maunu and Ilari Kahonen. have done a number of performance art and environmental art projects in Finland and abroad, for example. Estonia, Belarus and South Korea. NAPS has been giving lectures in the Fine Art Academy and University of Art and Design in Helsinki, as well discussions in exhibitions and performances all around Finland.
In Brooklyn NAPS are ready to present a new work of "Sugar Mosaic, The Flag"
Environmental Art
In Finland we have been communicating with authorities and politicians by arranging exhibition and discussion about city plan in Environment Center of Helsinki and by organizing an art outdoor event in politically sensitive areas. Sugar Mosaic Art works were based on the exaltation in Istanbul, Turkey, in April- May 2010, now a museum operating in the Hagia Sofia. Originally built as a church in 537, then by 1453 the conquest of Constantinople, Hagia Sophia, converted into a mosque is considered one of the master piece of Byzantine architecture.

We offer an opportunity to experience visceral and challenging works by the current generation of international performance artists whether emerging, mid-career or established. Our events are presented on the floor, not on a stage, dissolving the boundary between artist and viewer. This is how performance art is meant to be experienced and our mission is the glorification of performance art.
Grace Exhibition Space presents over 30 curated live performance art exhibitions each year, showcasing new work by more than 400 performance artists from across the United States and the world since 2006.
