THE WATERFALL:
The Waterfall is a performance that addresses the nature of defeating continuity of self. It toys with the concept that forced continuity of self, i.e. "being oneself" is a form of violence against the self.

Anya Liftig’s work has been featured at TATE Modern, Highways Performance Space, Exit Art, Chashama, Surreal Estate, Eyedrum, Grace Exhibition Space, Flux Factory, Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, Galapagos, The Flea, Performance Art Institute--San Francisco, Chez Bushwick, Fountain Art Fair Miami, Spread Art, Socrates Sculpture Park, Yale University, Center for Performance Research, INCUBATEChicago, University of Wisconsin, University of Chicago, Vaudeville Park, Mess Hall, Joyce Soho and many other venues.
Her work, “The Anxiety of Influence,” was an intervention into Marina Abramovic’s “The Artist is Present” retrospective at MOMA. Liftig dressed as the elder artist and sat across from her all day.Her work has been published and written about in The New York Times Magazine, Bomb, The Wall Street Journal, Vogue Italia, Marie Claire Italia, Heeb, Public Culture, Art Papers, X-tra, ArtNews, The L Magazine, The Other Journal, Jewcy, Mix Magazine, Next Magazine, Now and Then, Stay Thirsty, New York Magazine, Gothamist, Jezebel, Animal New York and many others.
She is a graduate of Yale University and Georgia State University and has received grant and residency support from The Field, Vermont Studio Center, University of Antiouia, Casa Tres Patios-Medellin, Colombia, and Flux Projects, Atlanta.

Through video, performance, sound and installation, I am interested in exploring the construction of identity, positioning myself as the primary medium through which to explore the relationship between socio- cultural heritage, gender, age, sexuality and the human condition. By recycling iconic clichés my works are experimentations, a process, a child like meandering through the symbolic domain, creating emotional exchanges between the audience and the work/myself and generating starting points for thought and reflection.

Grace Exhibition Space teaches the process behind creating and understanding Performance Art through a series of action-based workshops. Within a group context, individual participants are guided through their own development and engagement with performance art, through a first-hand exploration of performance art techniques.
