MAKING FLUXUS ACTIONS
Grace Exhibition Space teaches the process behind creating and understanding performance art through a series of action- and exercise- based workshops. This educational series introduces performance art practices to all levels of participants. Within a group context, individual participants are guided through their own development and engagement with performance art, through a first-hand exploration of performance art techniques. This is a new series being presented by the Directors of the Grace Exhibition Space and visiting artists, to attempt to answer that eternal question, "What is Performance Art and How Can I Make It?"
This Season: FLUXUS
FLUXUS:
Fluxus encourages a "do-it-yourself" aesthetic, and values simplicity over complexity. Like Dada before it, Fluxus includes a strong current of anti-commercialism and an anti-art sensibility, disparaging the conventional market-driven art world in favor of an artist-centered creative practice. - paraphrased from Wikipedia
With discussions on performance art, its histories and its genres
Tuesday workshop will be run by Mr. Miles Pflanz, who has a degree in Fluxus Art Research
the majority of the sessions will be devoted to performances by participants based on scores by fluxus members or on exercises meant to help build an understanding of the fluxus method of performance. welcome to beginners as well as to long term practitioners of performance art, as well as artists in other mediums wishing to branch out. workshops also feature lectures and discussions on the critical topics, methods, and history of fluxus.

We offer an opportunity to experience visceral and challenging works by the current generation of international performance artists whether emerging, mid-career or established. Our events are presented on the floor, not on a stage, dissolving the boundary between artist and viewer. This is how performance art is meant to be experienced and our mission is the glorification of performance art.
